Ottawa Spring Tips
As soon as your lawn is dry enough we recommend you do a light fluff-up of the grass, to eliminate the dead grass, debris, and stones which may have ended up on your lawn during the winter season. The grass usually gets flattened down from the weight of the snow so a spring raking will stand the grass up, allowing for a better airflow to the roots.
During a normal spring period not much watering is required, except for the newly seeded areas. These require light sprinklings to keep the area moist until germination begins. However, if there is a hot dry spell do not wait for rain. The best rule of thumb is to make sure your lawn gets soaked thoroughly at least once a week.
Cut your lawn once a week at a height of 2 - 21/2 ". If the grass is allowed to grow too long, once cut, only coarse yellow stalks will show. All the green coloring at the top of the blade gets cut off. Scalping your lawn may put your lawn into shock and may take a month to recover. A dull mower blade will give the lawn a yellow-brown appearance.
